Mariegold
Mariegold develops a new business branch for an existing farm by bringing together agriculture, craftsmanship and design. The farm serves as a living lab where sustainable and responsible approaches to textile production are explored while simultaneously building an economically viable business model.
The project focuses on cultivating dye plants, naturally dyeing wool yarn and transforming these materials into high-quality textile products. It investigates how plants, animals, materials and people can interact within a local, environmentally responsible production system. Wherever possible, all production steps take place on-site, creating closed-loop processes and strengthening regional value chains.
Alongside research activities, Mariegold produces marketable products such as dye plant seeds, dried dye plants, naturally dyed yarns and knitted garments. Additional initiatives include the development of sheep sponsorship programmes and the creation of an engaged community around sustainable textile production. Through workshops and knowledge-sharing activities, traditional techniques are combined with innovative approaches, making the origins and production processes of textiles visible and tangible. The project demonstrates that textile production can be local, environmentally friendly and socially meaningful while contributing to the long-term viability of agriculture.
