Apply for the ARE Sustainable Development Funding Program!

1.9.2025

Implementing Agenda 2030 also poses major challenges in Switzerland. Novel, concrete, and local solutions are needed to achieve the goals set by the Federal Council in its 2030 Sustainable Development Strategy. The funding program therefore focuses primarily on inspiring ideas that can also be transferred to other regions or contexts.

Projects are invited to apply between May and September, with project activities being implemented in the following year.

Call for proposals 2025-2026: “Liveable and sustainable places”

The focus of the 2025-2026 funding program is “Liveable and sustainable places.” This topic primarily relates to SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities and SDG 15: Life on land.

Are you planning to redesign a place in order to strengthen the ecological, economic, or social sustainability of our everyday lives? Do you have ideas on how to promote sustainability in the design and long-term use of our living space? Would you like to test innovative methods for participatory and collaborative planning of location-based projects?

We are looking for innovative projects for the sustainable planning, design, and use of our living space. This year's call for entries is based on the Davos Quality System for Building Culture and is being conducted in collaboration with the Federal Office of Culture (FOC).

The projects should contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and take into account the three dimensions of sustainability—ecological responsibility, social solidarity, and economic performance—in a balanced and integrated manner. For the projects to be successful, the relevant quality criteria for building culture must be taken into account.
